Modern Day Pin Up Girls
Hi Darlings, I hope everyone is having a great new week thus far. For a long time I had this silly obsession with being slim and would go on these ridiculous diets and lose a lot of weight only to look like someone who was not me. As I started to get older and in search of finding who I am as a woman and my own personal style, I realized that not only are my curves and big legs beautiful but I have a shape that is unique and worth celebrating. Woman like Marilyn Monroe were admired for having curves and are celebrated. I have many friends who have pictures of Marilyn Monroe hanging on the wall in their homes, so why not embrace mine and celebrate it? I’ve always loved women with beautiful curves. There’s something about a tiny waist, beautiful hips and how stunning it looks in clothes that I find so beautiful and glamorous; hence, some of the reasons why I admire how elegant women from the 50s dressed and look without showing too much. It proved that class and elegance will never go out of style.
On this particular day, my girlfriend and I decided we were going to spend our Saturday at home and just hang out at the pool and indulge in cosmopolitans and colorful martinis. Sometimes it’s nice to just stay at home and relax without having to go out or to an event. When I am not designing my own swimsuits and resort wear, one of my absolute favorite places to shop is Unique Vintage. When I launched my blog two months ago it made perfect sense that my first collaboration would be at one of my “go to” online stores for swimsuits.
Unique Vintage swimsuits never disappoint, and they hold my curves in all the right places. I love vintage clothes, and one of my favorite things in the world are retro vintage swimsuits. I love how sexy yet tasteful they are. They are always cut beautifully and fit me like a glove. I felt so glamorous and beautiful in my red and white striped cotton folly swimsuit here from Unique Vintage paired with this beautiful console hat i purchased in Asia and this beautiful red swim cap you can purchase from my amazon store here. To add some fun I got this super cute paper umbrella to polish my look that here. I felt it would only be right to share this look with all my fashionistas who want to wear something different and unique. I also wanted to show my readers that you don’t have to be a size 2 to look fabulous in a swimsuit, you just have to wear what suits your body.
With Unique Vintage’s help, I wanted to use this opportunity to showcase my own personal representation of pin-up modeling and my long time desire to do pin-up on my website. Pin-up modeling is a subculture that is invested in promoting positive body images and a love for one’s sexuality. Pin-up would also find ways to encourage the erotic self-awareness and self expression of real women. Though Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page are often cited as the classic pin-up models, there were many women of color who were also considered to be impactful. In the 1920s two of the most notable Black burlesque dancers were Josephine Baker and Lottie Graves. My goal is to embark on the journey of pin-up and be known as your modern day pin-up girl.
I hope you guys love my interpretation of what I consider to be a modern day pin-up girl. I would really love to hear what you all think of this look, and shop the look as well because not only is it classy but it’s such a timeless look I think will look fabulous on all of my beautiful women out there. Thank you Darlings for always stopping by and reading my articles.
