Modern Day African Woman
Happy Friday darlings. I recently had the pleasure of being a judge at the 2019 Miss Liberia Pageant in the USA and what an honor it was.
The contestants were phenomenal! My heart was smiling being in the presence of such grace, beauty and intellect. I was so proud to see young Liberian women, with such promising futures proudly representing their country in this way. As a judge, they made my job very hard but in the end there can only be one Queen.
I was so impressed by the new Queen we selected. Her resilience, confidence and ability to commend a room was wonderful to watch. She was powerful in her own right and it was apparent the audience loved her too. Am looking forward to seeing her journey as Queen, something tells me she’s going to make us all proud.
For this particular occasion I wanted to do something different yet suitable for the evening. Often times when people hear the word “pageant” their first thought is to wear a gown or something long, my goal was to do the complete opposite.
I knew that doing something in Ankara would be culturally appropriate and in doing so,the birth of the modern day African Woman came to life. My dress was fierce and traditional in a modern way.
Instead of wrapping my head in lappa, I opted for a dramatic headpiece to make my simple, modest dress a show stopping number. My look was polished, easy to move in which made being a pageant judge a beautiful experience for me.
Thank you darlings for stopping by and visiting with me. If you like my modern day African woman look please feel free to let me know in the comments below.
If you are interested in having me recreate this look for you in other colors of Ankara just shoot me an email at [email protected] or DM me in Instagram. Until next time cheers to style and grace.
