The Hagley Museum and Library is a nonprofit educational institution in Wilmington, Delaware. Covering more than 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine Creek, the museum and grounds include the first du Pont family home and garden in the United States, the powder yards, and a 19th-century machine shop.
Hagley Museum happens to be just a few miles from where I live and because of my constant need to know my surroundings, I decided to visit and make a day of it. I also love information and learning so it was the perfect plan. I’ve driven by the Museum on many occassion admiring the beauty of the property. I was feeling a bit down and wanted to change the sad emotions. I was determine to turn it into a positive one.
I try to make a conscious effort every day to continue to heal from my loss and as strong as I appear sometimes it’s not always easy. Being optimistic about life and what the future holds is truly what keeps me grounded. It’s what helps me move forward. Whenever am sad or feeling down I turn to nature and dressing up to change my mood. It sounds silly I know but it’s what works for me.
Going to the museum dressed up as if I was attending a wedding or dinner party was my way of changing my day from a sad one to a good one. I purchase a beautiful bottle of champagne, grab some glasses, got into my convertible and off I went back in time to the 1920’s. In this case the 1920’s of Hagley Museum. Surrounded by nature, beautiful gardens, vintage cars and a beautiful mansion was the perfect cure.
I imagined attending a beautiful dinner party at the mansion surrounded by great company and live entertainment lol. Don’t judge me for having a big imagination. I wore a beautiful cocktail dress that I designed paired with the perfect feather hat and perfect pink Christian Louboutin sandals. Within that moment of touring this elegant property, I realized how travel, adventure and my desire to share my experience big or small with all of you is important to me. Not everyone is able to travel but traveling doesn’t necessarily have to mean going out of town.
Visiting a place less then 30 minutes from my home, I realized that I had just traveled in time. I didn’t have to go to Austria or Rome to do it. Travel is what you make of it. My vintage Day Trip helped change my mood. I accomplish the goal of changing the narrative. This would be a wonderful place to take your family or friends . There is so much to see, so much to do. Try to make good use of all the day trip opportunities in your city darlings. You will be surprise how rewarding it can be.
