Annapolis has been crowned as one of the Prettiest Small Towns in the United States. Known for its beautiful coast and fancy boats. I wanted to share with my readers why the capital city should be added to your bucket list of great staycations within the US. This beautiful city is also known for its historic buildings like the Maryland Statehouse and colonial homes as well as the vibrant downtown district of shops and restaurants. There’s lots to love in Annapolis, not to mention views of the Chesapeake Bay and a stroll on the grounds of the Naval Academy.

This Labor Day weekend I had a three day weekend. I thought to myself what better way to spend the holiday than to do a fun staycation in Annapolis. Sitting perfectly between Baltimore and Washington DC, Annapolis is such a wonderful small town.  It’s full of vibrant energy, great eats and my all time favorite — fabulous fancy boats. When I decided to feature Annapolis as a staycation it made perfect sense to rent a boat for the day, or better yet, overnight on a yacht. Thanks to Airbnb(here) we found the perfect boat to rent for our Labor Day weekend.

I was so excited to accomplish this goal of doing a staycation in style and in such a unique way. My goal is to show readers an interesting way of traveling, help them see that travel is what you make of it whether big or small, near or far. Because I am a travel professional, I see the world as my canvas, I see staycations differently. It’s not just about going on a trip within your city or state; it’s more about going on a road trip, a quick drive, even a quick flight away within the great United States. So many of us have lived in the US all our lives and still I find that many people have not ventured off to a nearby town, city or state to see what they too may have to offer.

I want this idea of travel to change and am here help you do that. The Unites States is such an incredible place to explore. There is so much beauty and history here. From Montana to Utah to the deserts of Arizona. There is an incredible opportunity to see and experience something new, fun and educational. Together we will explore all the states and cities keeping in mind that they too can be considered a fabulous destination to visit —in my case, a fabulous staycation.

We drove from the state of Delaware approximately 2 hours to Annapolis, Maryland. I was especially excited to be there because I miss the DMV area so much. The delicious taste of Maryland crabs and all my close friends. I still own a home in DC where I lived for many years until recently when I decided to go to school in Delaware. Being back in the area made my heart glad. I was home and happy to be back, even if just for a few days.

Our first stop was in the historic district of Annapolis. We stopped by the State House, walked all up and down Main Street, and decided to go have lunch at one of my new favorite spots for food called Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls(here). It’s not a fancy spot, but if you are looking for some of the best lobster sandwiches, I would highly recommend this place. You have your choice of whole lobster sandwiches, or if you want to be more adventurous, you can do a trio and try three different types of mini lobster rolls. Its small inside the restaurant but they have outdoor seating options which I love. My favorite sandwich there would have to be the lobster BLT.

From there we went to Ego Alley (here) for more sight seeing, shopping, and to watch the beautiful boats come by. We sipped on refreshing cocktails at Carroll’s Creek Cafe as we waiting on our water taxi to take us to our home for the weekend on a boat parked in Acton Cove. The water taxi was only five dollars per person one way so it was nothing. I parked my car at an overnight garage that was only 200 meters from the water taxi. Darlings, I cannot begin to tell you how very excited I was to be having my first sleepover on a yacht that was not on a cruise filled with thousands of people. I was beyond thrilled and wanted to tell you all about it.

This was our home for our Staycation

We found this gem on Airbnb (here). The boat is owned by a lovely couple who have sailed all over the world on their Catamaran, and every now and then they will stop in certain parts of the US for a few months to Airbnb and make some extra money. They will be in the Annapolis Acton Cove area until October of this year, so if you are close by and want to experience something cool and different here is your opportunity. If not a boat staycation, another lodging accommodation I would recommend would be the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel Autograph Collection(here) . This hotel is centrally located to all the wonderful experiences that the beautiful town of Annapolis has to offer. I was shocked to find this amazing deal on Airbnb and didn’t want to pass up the opportunity of having my very own tour guide on a yacht along with good company and lots of incredible stories from their voyages around the world by sea.

We had access to the entire boat, our room had a king bed, private bathroom and the boat was in pristine condition. There’s a kitchen and breakfast nook and lots of wonderful seating on the deck of the boat to watch the sunset and gaze all around at beautiful views of the Chesapeake. We spent most of our time on the highest deck of the Catamaran drinking champagne and pinching ourselves at this amazing experience. The couple has several kayaks for you to use and enjoy water sports. For an additional cost you could set sail on a cruise on your very own private tour. I mainly wanted to relax and take it all in.

Our Airbnb was located in Acton’s Cove

Our host made us light breakfast in the mornings and provided sparking wine for us in the evening, but you are welcome to bring whatever you like. We went on shore for dinners and packed all our goodies and favorite drinks to have at our disposal while we were on the yacht. This was one staycation that I will most definitely never forget because not only was it different, but we made it luxurious and unique to our taste. To have the opportunity to spend our Labor Day weekend on a private boat for less than $350 was unbelievable to me. We not only got our money’s worth but we captured some amazing photos in Annapolis and on our boat staycation that I hope will make you want to try something new and experience something different.

Life gets so busy sometimes that we forget to enjoy the little things that matter. Taking time out for ourselves and enjoying the company of our friends and loved ones is a necessity.  Be more open about stepping outside of your comfort zone because some experiences are worth a lifetime. If you don’t try new things, how will you ever know? All the links for this staycation are here if you ever want to try them out.
